The Obelisk: A Fallacy in the Mind of a Gay Man

We already know that the father of the main character is in fact a closeted homosexual, however it is foreshadowed early on in the life of the main character before this confession. One point of foreshadowing found specifically in the beginning of the novel. The reference is constantly made to the fathers appeal of obelisks, he even collects them; he wants his tombstone to be one as well. Mainly I think that his like of this structure and its symbolic representation of a fallacy, giving reason to suspect that the father is a gay (or possibly bisexual) man under partial operator stereo types.
