Just Another Stereotype
Following my last post on the foreshadowing that would exist had the fathers true disposition been disclosed, another stereo type that could be used to aid this does arise in the first little bit of the novel. It is unfortunate that the stereotype of gay men being "good" at decorating and style is reflected in LGBTTQ literature, but it is seen and I believe to be a kind of for shadowing development.

The Obelisk: A Fallacy in the Mind of a Gay Man
We already know that the father of the main character is in fact a closeted homosexual, however it is foreshadowed early on in the life of the main character before this confession. One point of foreshadowing found specifically in the beginning of the novel. The reference is constantly made to the fathers appeal of obelisks, he even collects them; he wants his tombstone to be one as well. Mainly I think that his like of this structure and its symbolic representation of a fallacy, giving reason to suspect that the father is a gay (or possibly bisexual) man under partial operator stereo types. The following are some photos that help depict what I'm talking about.
